The Relationship Between the Serum Dopamine, 5-Hydroxytryptamine, and Anxiety and Depression Status in Patients With Breast Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy

      Abstract:
Objective To discuss the relationship between serum dopamine (DA), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), and anxiety and depression status in patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy.
Methods From September 2018 to September 2020, 40 patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy in the Fourth People's Hospital of Chengdu were selected as the chemotherapy group, and 40 healthy individual for heath check-up were selected as the control group. The serum DA and 5-HT were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the anxiety and depression status was evaluated by the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), the relationship between the serum DA, 5-HT, and anxiety and depression status were analyzed.
Results The serum DA and 5-HT in the chemotherapy group were lower than those in the control group, and the HAMA and HAMD scores in the chemotherapy group were higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). In the chemotherapy group, the serum DA and 5-HT in patients with anxiety were lower than those without anxiety, and the serum DA and 5-HT in patients with depression were lower than those without depression, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the serum DA and 5-HT were negatively correlated with HAMA and HAMD scores (P<0.05).
Conclusions The serum DA and 5-HT were related to the anxiety and depression status in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and the decrease of DA and 5-HT may be the cause of anxiety and depression.
